Schedule Update

Greetings 'Goats!

I hope that all is well and that each of you is enjoying this exciting winter season!

Our paperwork is in an we are officially playing in two divisions in Vail ....... so ................ get your RSVPs in, your dues paid and you a$$ in shape!

The most important update in this email is with regard to uniforms. Uniforms will go on order February 25. As noted, we are making a team set of uniforms (jersey and shorts) that will not be available for you to take home, purchase or otherwise commandeer. So, if you want to order a uniform of your very own, you need to drop me a note within the next week and provide me with the following:

• Jersey number
• Jersey size
• Shorts size

For general sizing, I am an XL in jersey and L - XL in shorts (6' 1", 195 pounds, normally proportioned for an old fat guy). Uniforms are Nike custom, Navy Blue with Vegas Gold trim and whatever ornamentation I decide looks good. Current cost estimate for a completed uniform is $ 100 ..... you will have to pay for it by the end of March (via check to Paul Danner).

Important. Safety. Tip. I cannot order uniforms after the initial batch. So, if you want one of your very own, you MUST order it within the next 10 days (OK, that is probably not entirely accurate, more like "I don't want to mess with it after the initial batch" but you get the picture.....).

Planning for Vail and associated goodies is well underway. Picnic will be best ever (have President of the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association on board to cook), banquet will be best ever, heck, if some of you guys can still play some ball we may even win a few games. Important factoids:

RSVP.

RSVP to me. Now. Today. Stop waiting around. Tell the boss, wife, kids, 19 year old girlfriend ....... whomever ....... that you are going to Vail and RSVP. No excuse for missing the 20th anniversary ....... mark the dates, make your travel plans and start saving money so you can buy me beer.

Dates are June 26 (practice and picnic) through June 30 (final games and closing banquet).

Greetings Goats!

It is March, which means that we have slightly over 3 months to put the finishing touches on our Vail, 2009 planning. (Yeah, I know, "planning, what planning???") This will be our 19th year in Vail (our 19th year as an alumni team which pretty cool when you think about it) and, as always, we plan to make this year better than any that has come before. Not exactly sure how to accomplish that but something will come to me and, whatever it is, you don't want to miss it!

That being said:

RSVP. Now. This minute. Today. RSVP is some French thing (no, not "we surrender" but another common French saying) that means "send me a note and let me know if you will be in Vail". As of today I have RSVPs from (in no particular order):

2. Schedule:

June 26 - Picnic and opening ceremonies - Practice TBD, Picnic at Big Horn Park (East Vail), 1800 hours

June 27 - June 30 - Tournament games (SuperMasters), field TBD (Vail), time TBD

June 27 - June 29 - Tournament games (GrandMasters), field TBD (Vail), time TBD

June 30 - Closing banquet, location TBD, 1900 hours

3. Dues are $ 150 and should be sent to Paul in FL

We have officially entered the "spending money" phase of our Vail preparations so feel free to send money to Paul ASAP.

4. Conditioning:

Vail is at 8,000 feet. Not sure what that is in meters or nautical miles, but I know it is high and there is no air. So, you really need to think about running some before you head to Vail (or, if you are like Wayne , just practice drinking while holding your breath, whatever works...).

Seriously, playing in Vail is quite a challenge due to the altitude. Training for the event can help you avoid significant discomfort.

Other relevant items:

If you are interested in sponsoring any part of the Vail experience, please contact me. We will gladly let you pay for stuff. No problem. No, honest, no problem.

I have had numerous queries regarding the wine from last year. We found shipping to be quite a problem and opted not to offer this service. However, we are going to ramp up to make some wine for Vail, 2008 in the very near future. If you would like to purchase some to take home with you, please send me a note regarding type and quantity (lead time is about 60 days for the wine). Having wine available for the team this year is dependent upon budget and/or available sponsorship, so we aren't sure about that yet.

We have reserved a slot in both the Grand and Super Masters divisions. The Grand Masters team is, at this moment, a USNA Alumni team. We are working on the possibility of having a Joint Service Academy team, but at this point no decision has been made (other than we will be fielding an over 50 team and we will need a whole bunch of bodies 'cause I am NOT playing midfield again this year...).

GO NAVY!!!

Lodging. Lodging is the responsibility of the individual. We have talked with numerous places in and around Vail and have some "group deals" noted below. Jackie and I are staying in the Landmark Condos, El Jefe is at the Wren, others are scattered about.

Primary choices are Vail proper (including Vail and Lions Head) or East Vail (Vail Racquet Club). Staying in Vail gives you easy access to the city bus service and provides a "no driving" solution to those late nights at the Red Lion. The Wren is within walking distance of the field (which is of some value assuming you can still walk after playing lacrosse at 8,250 feet).
